# Amish family and community life

The local Amish community in the photographed history is presented through an agrarian way of life. Horse-drawn travel and farm work, distinctive dress, and private schooling express an interwoven pattern of scriptural interpretation, tradition, simplicity, modesty, and nonconformity. These descriptions concern the communities represented in the source, rather than establishing identical customs for every Amish settlement.

Children learn within this life through play and practical responsibility. The panel shows them caring for animals, helping with gardening, and sharing activities with one another.
