# Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization 1920–1923 · Overview Representatives from Mennonite communities in western Canada met at Regina on 18 October 1920 to coordinate relief for people suffering in the former Russian Empire. Their work developed into a specific immigration organization, the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization, established in 1922 under the leadership of David Toews and A. A. Friesen. The board negotiated with the Canadian government and the Canadian Pacific Railway so refugees could travel on credit. The first immigrants arrived in July 1923. Over the following years, established Mennonite households welcomed newcomers while the board helped arrange transport, settlement, and repayment of travel costs. The archival fonds preserves registration forms, correspondence, minutes, and later relief and immigration records. It distinguishes the 1920 relief initiative from the 1922 board organization, clarifying the chart’s earlier date. The records also trace renewed immigration work after the Second World War and later cooperation that contributed to MCC Canada. - [Supplied branch chart, IMG_9379](https://github.com/trueChristian/history.truechristian.church/blob/main/sources/church-history/photos/IMG_9379.jpg) - [Mennonite Heritage Archives: Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization fonds](https://archives.mhsc.ca/canadian-mennonite-board-of-colonization-fonds) - [Mennonite Historical Society of Alberta: board records and administrative history](https://mennonitehistory.org/canadian-mennonite-board-of-colonization-2/) --- Page: https://history.truechristian.church/en/events/canadian-mennonite-board-colonization/ [Contribute a correction or addition](https://github.com/trueChristian/history.truechristian.church/issues/new?title=Correction%3A+Canadian+Mennonite+Board+of+Colonization&body=%23%23+Page+or+topic%0ACanadian+Mennonite+Board+of+Colonization%0A%0APage%3A+https%3A%2F%2Fhistory.truechristian.church%2Fen%2Fevents%2Fcanadian-mennonite-board-colonization%2F%0A%0ARecord%3A+canadian-mennonite-board-colonization%0A%0ADate+currently+shown%3A+1920%E2%80%931923%0A%0A%23%23+Correction+or+addition%0A%0A%0A%0A%23%23+Sources+and+evidence%0APlease+include+book%2Fpage+references%2C+archive+links%2C+or+first-hand+documentation.%0A%0A%0A%0A%23%23+Image+credit+%28if+applicable%29%0ACreator%2C+source%2C+and+permission+or+public-domain+basis.%0A%0A%0A%0ASubmitted+for+review%3B+this+issue+does+not+publish+changes+automatically.)
