# Evangelical Mennonite Conference name

1960 · Overview

The Canadian Kleine Gemeinde took the name Evangelical Mennonite Church in 1952 and Evangelical Mennonite Conference in 1960. The change belongs to a history reaching back to Klaas Reimer’s renewal movement in Molotschna in 1812 and the migration of families to Manitoba in 1874–1875.

The new conference name became part of the organization’s continuing congregational and mission life. It did not rename every community descended from Kleine Gemeinde, some of which retained the older designation. The timeline therefore connects the Canadian conference to its earlier roots while preserving the distinct identities of related churches in other countries.
