# A worldwide gathering

1925 · Overview

The first Mennonite World Conference assembly met at Basel, Switzerland, from 13 to 16 June 1925 under the presidency of Christian Neff. It commemorated the beginning of Anabaptism four centuries earlier and created an occasion for believers from different national settings to meet around a shared history.

The next gathering, at Danzig in 1930, addressed Mennonite relief and communities in the Soviet Union. Subsequent assemblies continued the fellowship across borders: the supplied chart follows meetings in Europe and North America and reaches Curitiba in Brazil in 1972 and Winnipeg in 1990. These gatherings made room for worship, testimony, and shared concerns without replacing the different participating churches with a single denomination.
