# Ignatius of Antioch

111 · Overview

Ignatius served the church at Antioch in Syria. Martyrs’ Mirror describes him as a disciple of John and a diligent shepherd whose teaching centered on Christ. Arrested under Trajan, he was sent under guard to Rome.

The journey became an opportunity to encourage other believers through letters. The account follows his steadfastness as he faced death by wild beasts, which its heading dates to 111. The accompanying illustration belongs to this account.
