# Jakob Hutter

1536 · Overview

Jakob Hutter led Anabaptist believers from Tyrol toward refuge in Moravia and helped organize their shared life. The Hutterite history dates his election as chief elder to 1533 and his execution at Innsbruck to 25 February 1536.

Martyrs’ Mirror uses the spelling Jacob Huter in its Blaurock account. It describes him as an overseer and teacher whose people joined the Moravian church as persecution increased. Its account of George Zaunringerad also records Huter’s part in placing a minister in service and sending him to Moravia.

These passages connect Hutter’s leadership to named people and movements within the book. Community of goods and the continuing Hutterite tradition are explored on the linked tradition page.
