Go not around much with my letter, lest I lose
my liberty [of writing]; the Lord be praised for it.
If any one feel constrained by love to write a little,
send it; put into it, a little color, and soil it a little,
and it will be noticed the less. Write me how you
and my daughter are; send it with color, or some
spice, if it be only fennel seed, or a piece of cake; it
shall be acceptable to me. Salute cordially your
brother and his wife.
