# Amish traditions

1693 · Overview

Amish history grows from the Swiss Anabaptist tradition and the disagreements associated with Jakob Ammann. The later story includes migrations and distinct fellowships.

The source chart follows later distinctions among Old Order Amish, Egly Amish, Beachy fellowships, and Amish Mennonite conferences. These names reflect disagreements and developments at different times; the 1693 division is the beginning of the wider Amish history, not the founding date of every later affiliation.
