# The regional roots of Anabaptism

1520s: several regional beginnings · Overview

The photographed timeline begins with several lines in the 1520s. The Zürich baptisms are a defining event for the Swiss Brethren; other Anabaptist communities formed in different political and religious settings. The common Anabaptist name should therefore be read as a family of regional beginnings.

The explorer follows the early regional streams into the later communities shown on the supplied chart. The earlier witnesses preserved in Martyrs’ Mirror are integrated through the century accounts, keeping the book’s history and testimony at the center of the archive.
