# Sommerfeld Mennonites

1890s · Overview

Bergthal families settling on Manitoba’s West Reserve were connected with the East Reserve church. Disagreement in the West Reserve led to distinct church organizations, including the Sommerfeld church, shown on the photographed timeline in the 1890s.

Its story includes migration to Latin America and the renewal movement that became the Rudnerweider church. The archives distinguish Sommerfeld from Chortitzer, Bergthal, and Old Colony organizations. These names identify related but separate community histories; the explorer follows those particular connections.
