Daniel Kalvaert, a native of Thielt, in Flanders,
was apprehended, A. D. 1564, at Armentiers, for
the testimony of the truth, and thence taken to Rijssel,
but after being subjected to some solicitations
and torture, he was brought back to Armentiers,
escorted by forty beadles, and there sentenced by
the authorities, to be burnt alive to ashes; which offering
he boldly brought, after which his ashes were
thrown into the river Leye.
