In the year 1206, it is recorded, that Pope Innocent
III. exercised great cruelty against the followers
of the doctrine of Peter Bruis and Henry of
Toulouse, who, among other things, rejected infant
baptism, the mass, and transubstantiation, as has
already been stated. The manner, however, in which
this cruelty was manifested toward them, is not expressed.
P. J. Twisck, Chron., page 523, col. 1.

Undoubtedly, the Pope then caused to be carried
out what he had threatened, A. D. 1198, in his
three letters, against the Waldenses and others that
were called heretics, namely: That they should be
spoiled of their goods, expelled from the country,
and the material sword of the princes used against
them. In regard to said three letters and threats,
see A. Mell., 2d book, fol. 444, col. 2, 3, and
fol. 445, col. 1.
