# The Third Persecution Of The Christians, Commenced Under Trajan, A. D. 102. 102 · Historical source Source: Martyrs’ Mirror. Original heading: THE THIRD PERSECUTION OF THE CHRISTIANS, COMMENCED UNDER TRAJAN, A. D. 102. Source heading; not independently verified With the beginning of the second century, A. D. 102, arose the third heathen persecution against the Christians, under Emperor Trajan, who attained to the reign of the Roman monarchy in the year 100. Being instigated by Mamertinus, the governor of Rome, and Targuinus, the superintendent of the worship of the heathen deities, he persecuted the Christians in an awful manner, and put them to a wretched death. He was called a good emperor, but very superstitious as regards the heathen worship; by reason of which he was the more easily induced to undertake this sorry work. It also was no small help to this end, that the heathen priests and idolaters paid great taxes, to extirpate by sufferings and death, as the enemies of God and of man, those who were opposed to their gods, especially the Christians. Meanwhile we shall show what persons suffered under the bloody reign of Emperor Trajan, for the name of Jesus Christ. --- Page: http://history.truechristian.church/stories/mm-the-third-persecution-of-the-christians-commenced-under-trajan-a-d-102/ [Contribute a correction or addition](https://github.com/trueChristian/history.truechristian.church/issues/new?title=Correction%3A+The+Third+Persecution+Of+The+Christians%2C+Commenced+Under+Trajan%2C+A.+D.+102.&body=%23%23+Page+or+topic%0AThe+Third+Persecution+Of+The+Christians%2C+Commenced+Under+Trajan%2C+A.+D.+102.%0A%0APage%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fhistory.truechristian.church%2Fstories%2Fmm-the-third-persecution-of-the-christians-commenced-under-trajan-a-d-102%2F%0A%0ARecord%3A+mm-the-third-persecution-of-the-christians-commenced-under-trajan-a-d-102%0A%0ADate+currently+shown%3A+102%0A%0A%23%23+Correction+or+addition%0A%0A%0A%0A%23%23+Sources+and+evidence%0APlease+include+book%2Fpage+references%2C+archive+links%2C+or+first-hand+documentation.%0A%0A%0A%0A%23%23+Image+credit+%28if+applicable%29%0ACreator%2C+source%2C+and+permission+or+public-domain+basis.%0A%0A%0A%0ASubmitted+for+review%3B+this+issue+does+not+publish+changes+automatically.)
