Concerning baptism he writes, that it was reported
of them, that they had ridiculed the sacrament of
baptism.

But who does not know, that if they ridiculed the
sacrament of baptism, they meant it only as far as
infant baptism is concerned; for this was the mooted
question at that time. However, Mellinus gives his
opinion, which does not conflict with ours, as to
what was their belief in this matter. His words are
these: “As regards the article of the sacrament of
baptism (namely, that they should have entirely
rejected it), it must not be understood with reference
to the true institution of Christ, but to the belief
of the papists, who bind the grace of Christ and
the power of the Holy Ghost to the external water
of baptism.”
