General Conference mission among Native American communities

General Conference Mennonites began mission work among several Native American peoples in the American West.

Also searchable as: Arapaho · Hopi · Cheyenne · Oklahoma · Arizona · Montana

The exhibit records that the Foreign Mission Board of the General Conference Mennonite Church began this work during the 1880s. It names Arapaho, Hopi, and Cheyenne communities and identifies Oklahoma, Arizona, and Montana as locations reached by the mission.

These names locate the episode more precisely than a general statement that Mennonites spread west. They also identify the peoples among whom missionaries worked. The short panel does not supply individual missionaries’ names, the experiences of Native believers, or a detailed account of each mission. Those distinct local histories require their own records and should not be invented from the shared heading.
