Perpetua and Felicitas

Perpetua and Felicitas are remembered together in the third-century accounts. Martyrs’ Mirror describes them as Christian women of Tuburbi in Mauritania, one nursing a child and the other pregnant when they were imprisoned.

Their family circumstances form part of the account’s testimony to steadfast faith. Felicitas distinguishes the suffering of childbirth from the suffering she will bear as a Christian, and both remain faithful when sentenced to death. The heading places their witness at about 201.
