Michael Sattler

Also searchable as: Sattler

Michael Sattler is associated with the seven Schleitheim Articles of 1527, which address baptism, church discipline, the breaking of bread, separation, shepherds, the sword, and oaths. They set out a shared order of discipleship for the gathered brethren.

Martyrs’ Mirror preserves his trial as a sequence: the account of his hearing, the charges and answers, and a prison letter to the church at Horb. Reading these together shows how convictions about baptism and nonresistance became matters for which a believer could be condemned.

The prison letter carries the story beyond the courtroom. It exhorts the congregation to remain faithful to Christ, to live in obedience, and to hold together under pressure. These are linked here as parts of one documented account rather than as unrelated search matches.
