Christian beginnings: Acts and the early witnesses

The account in Acts provides the Christian beginnings to which later Anabaptist communities looked for their understanding of discipleship, baptism, and shared life.

The New Testament account of the first Christian communities stands at the beginning of this timeline. Its descriptions of baptism, fellowship, care for neighbours, and witness helped shape later Anabaptist readings of the church.

Martyrs’ Mirror reaches back to the early church to tell a story of faithful witness. These early Christians were not members of the sixteenth-century Anabaptist movement. The book’s claims about continuity belong to its historical and theological interpretation and should be read as such.
