The Zürich baptisms
On 21 January 1525, Conrad Grebel baptized George Blaurock at a gathering associated with Felix Manz in Zürich. This is a central starting point for Swiss Anabaptist history.
A circle of reform-minded Christians in Zürich came to believe that baptism should follow a person’s own confession of faith. Their disagreement with the city’s religious settlement brought pressure to conform.
On 21 January 1525, Conrad Grebel baptized George Blaurock, and others at the gathering were then baptized. The event became a defining beginning for the Swiss Brethren. Anabaptism also developed in other regions, so the wider story includes several centres and traditions.
