The Beachy Amish division
The Beachy Amish history began with a 1927 division in an Amish congregation in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
The Amish congregation associated with Moses M. Beachy in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, divided in 1927. The dispute involved church discipline, including the treatment of members who transferred to other Anabaptist congregations. Questions about the ban and fellowship made the separation a matter of church order as well as local relationships.
The Beachy name later came to describe a wider Amish Mennonite fellowship. The source chart places this line within Amish history, alongside other communities that responded differently to changes in church practice. Later worship, transportation, and mission patterns should be traced through their own local records rather than all being assigned to the first dispute in 1927.
