Beachy Amish fellowships

The Beachy Amish history began with a 1927 division in an Amish congregation in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

Moses M. Beachy’s congregation in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, became the setting of a division in 1927. The disagreement concerned church discipline, including the treatment of members who moved to other Anabaptist congregations.

The Beachy name later described a wider fellowship of Amish Mennonite congregations. Their later practices and mission activity should not be read back into every detail of the original dispute. The exhibit places Beachy on the Amish line; the historical account by Alvin J. Beachy offers a closer view of the local beginnings.
