The beginnings of the Bruderhof
Eberhard and Emmy Arnold, together with Else von Hollander, founded the Bruderhof in Germany in 1920.
Eberhard and Emmy Arnold, together with Else von Hollander, began the Bruderhof at Sannerz in Germany in 1920. They sought a common life shaped by the Sermon on the Mount and the sharing described in Acts. The establishment of a household community gave practical form to their desire for renewed New Testament discipleship.
The later history included fellowship with Hutterites and movement across national borders. The supplied panel records acceptance into the Hutterian brotherhood in 1931 and the spread of Bruderhof communities to England, Paraguay, the United States, and Australia. Its own beginnings remain attached to the people and commitments of 1920, while subsequent relationships and relocations form further stages of the story.
