War and the dispersal of Hutterite communities

The supplied overview follows attacks on Hutterite communities during the wars that afflicted Moravia and the surrounding lands from the beginning of the seventeenth century. It describes killing, captivity, plunder, and the loss of homes and communal resources.

The Thirty Years War brought further upheaval, and the end of that war did not immediately restore the life that had been lost. This period connects the earlier flourishing of Moravian communities with later movements in search of places where their fellowship could survive.
