Mennonite mission and church growth in Congo

Planning in 1911 was followed by the arrival of the first Congo Inland Mission workers in 1912.

Also searchable as: Congo Inland Mission · Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission · Democratic Republic of Congo

Efforts to establish a Mennonite mission in Congo began in 1911. The exhibit states that the first missionaries were placed a year later by the Congo Inland Mission, subsequently known as Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission. These two dates distinguish planning from the arrival of workers.

Other work associated with the Mennonite Brethren developed alongside it. The panel points toward autonomous Mennonite churches in the Democratic Republic of Congo, extending the timeline beyond migration from Europe and North America. Its membership totals are historical exhibit figures, not a statement about present numbers. The individual African believers and congregations require further sourced accounts rather than being left as anonymous endpoints of a map.
