Nikolsburg: refuge, the sword, and shared goods
Anabaptist refugees found protection around Nikolsburg under the Lords of Liechtenstein. The supplied overview describes a large fellowship whose members disagreed about the use of the sword and payment of war taxes.
The debate had consequences for daily life. Those committed to refusing violence left the settlement, and their journey leads into the 1528 account of sharing possessions on a cloak. That act of mutual provision became a defining practice in the Hutterite story.
