John of Cordova

John was a tradesman at Cordova accused of insulting Mohammed. Martyrs’ Mirror says the witnesses were insufficient to secure a death sentence, but he was severely beaten, publicly mocked, and imprisoned because he would not forsake Christ.

The account dates these sufferings to 850 and states that the author could not discover how John finally died. The illustration captioned with his name appears in the preceding general account of the Cordova persecution, so both sections are linked here.
