Samuel Frölich and the Apostolic Christian beginnings
Samuel Frölich’s preaching gathered believers from Reformed and Mennonite backgrounds into a new church community.
Also searchable as: Samuel Frölich
Samuel Frölich entered ministry in the Reformed Church in Switzerland in 1828 but was later excluded from the state church. At Langnau he gathered a congregation that drew members from both Reformed and Mennonite backgrounds. The exhibit connects this movement with the Apostolic Christian Church.
Its American beginnings are dated in the panel to 1852 among Amish Mennonites in New York. Later settlements developed in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Frölich died in Strasbourg in 1857. His story is included because the supplied source explicitly follows the movement’s relationship with Amish and Mennonite people; it does not make all of those older communities part of the new church.
