Stephen of Jerusalem

Stephen was one of the seven chosen to serve the church at Jerusalem. Martyrs’ Mirror follows Acts 6–7: his wisdom in dispute, the accusations against him, and his testimony before the council about God’s dealings with his people.

He was stoned outside the city, commending his spirit to the Lord and praying for those who killed him. The source heading assigns the event to 34. Its original illustration depicts the stoning and links the first-century chapter to a particular witness and place.
