Church of God in Christ, Mennonite
John Holdeman and others began worshiping separately in Ohio in 1859, forming a distinct Mennonite church history.
John Holdeman of Wayne County, Ohio, urged spiritual renewal in the Mennonite church. In 1859 he and others began worshiping separately; the community developed as the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Holdeman traveled as an evangelist and wrote Mirror of Truth.
The church’s own account emphasizes believers’ baptism, nonresistance, conversion, modest life, and congregational discipline. Later congregations and missions extended beyond North America. Its history of faithful Christian witness stands alongside the wider Mennonite accounts preserved in this archive.
