Mennonites of Swiss–South German ancestry
Migrations connected Swiss and South German Anabaptist communities with European refuges and later congregations in North America.
The photographed timeline follows Swiss and South German Anabaptist communities through persecution, refuge, and migration. The shared ancestry label describes several congregational histories, including later Mennonite and Amish developments.
Swiss and German Mennonites migrated to Pennsylvania during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and later settled farther west. Language, family networks, and congregational traditions traveled with them. This geographical history is kept distinct from the Dutch–Prussian–Russian migration line, while later cooperation between their churches remains visible.
