The Mennonite Brethren emerge
Renewal within Mennonite communities in the Russian Empire contributed to the formation of the Mennonite Brethren in 1860.
Bible-study groups and a call to renewed Christian life preceded the formation of the Mennonite Brethren in the Molotschna settlement in 1860. The movement developed within the church communities of the Russian Empire and gave institutional expression to concerns about conversion, discipleship, and congregational renewal.
The branch chart follows the new fellowship through migration and mission beyond the colony settlements. Abraham and Miriam Friesen’s departure for India in 1890 supplies one named example of that wider work. The Mennonite Brethren line has its own history alongside Kleine Gemeinde and other colony churches; its later growth can be followed through congregations, missions, and schools rather than through the founding date alone.
