Chortitza
The Chortitza settlement became the Old Colony within the Mennonite history of the Russian Empire.

Prussian Mennonite families established the settlement near the end of the eighteenth century. Letters dated 1789 and later correspondence preserved in the archives connect settlers with the churches they had left.
