Frisian Mennonites
A Dutch Mennonite branch that developed in Friesland and also took root in West Prussia.
The Frisian–Flemish division began at Franeker in 1566, following disagreements between local Mennonites and believers who had arrived from the southern Netherlands. The Frisian name became a fellowship designation as well as a geographical description.
Frisian communities were themselves diverse. Some maintained especially strict church discipline, while others participated in wider union efforts. Their history continued in the Netherlands and West Prussia. The photographed chart traces these lines alongside the Flemish and Waterlander branches rather than presenting Dutch Anabaptism as a single uniform body.
